Rumor: Red Bull to Add Russian Team to Portfolio

Red Bull Global Soccer may not be done adding teams as the latest rumor has the group looking into purchasing a team in the Russian Premier League. The story from Roman Naguchev also mentions that the energy drink company isn’t the only bidder looking to purchase a team in the league. City Football Group also have their eyes on the eastern European league.

The team that could be purchased was revealed to be Bashkortostan team FC Ufa. Founded in 2009, Ufa has been in 14th place in the league, their lowest placement so late in the season since their promotion in 2014. Should they stay up, and Red Bull complete the move, it would be the third team in a top flight European league that they would own.

The team is already reported to have had several meetings with Red Bull officials. As with the other teams in Europe, South America and the United States, it is expected that an academy would be groomed quickly. At the moment Red Bull are considered one of the more prolific teams when it comes to developing young players and could finally see the investment payoff with potential transfers of Timo Werner and Dayot Upamecano in the near future.

Red Bull’s success in Europe can’t be denied. Red Bull Salzburg has become the dominant force in Austrian football and RB Leipzig are quickly challenging the duopoly in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and Dorussia Dortmund.
