Nagelsmann Lauds “Dominant Performance”

RB Leipzig manager couldn’t have been happier with his team’s 5-0 beat-down of FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday afternoon. It was a win that ended a three-game draw streak in the Bundesliga and also pushed the team up to third place and in prime Champions League positioning.

“It was a very dominant performance,” said a jubilant Nagelsmann. “That’s the sort of fighting spirit I want to see from my team. A very good away day.”

Leipzig went ahead in the 11th minute with a Timo Werner strike. From there they continued the assault with the German superstar scoring two more times to complete the hat trick in the second half. Overall it was an impressive performance even if against a team lower down in the table. Now, the East German club hopes to continue their push to potentially claim second place from rivals Borussia Dortmund.

“We can be pleased with that great performance,” said Sportin Director Markus Krosche. “We were much more clinical than we were in the Freiburg game and deserved to win.”

Krosche has stressed the importance of Champions League qualification over the past few weeks and this game represented a significant pitfall. Another draw, or worse yet a loss, would have thrown plans into a spiral, especially as they hope to hold on to top talent such as Werner and defender Upamecano heading into next season.

The next few days will be paramount for Leipzig as they look to the results of Der Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. From there they will plan accordingly for their game against Hertha Berlin on Wednesday.
