Gent Striker David May Choose Leipzig Over Arsenal

Gent striker Jonathan David has been a revelation in the Belgian League and now wants to take the next step, preferably with RB Leipzig. According to Football.London the 20-year-old Canadian is looking to continue his development and take on new challenges but feels he’ll find it in Germany and not England.

Dating back to January Arsenal FC have been linked with David as the team looks to get younger and more dynamic. The once-great London team has struggled over the years and will more than likely not play in the Champions League next season, a fact that could be a major influence on where David decides to play.

“I never knew big clubs would be interested in me,” said David to Sky Sports. “It’s overwhelming but I think I can make the next step.”

Leipzig is a place where David may end up seeing significant minutes. The likelihood of Timo Werner’s departure continues to grow and Patrik Schick’s time with the East German club may end after this loan-spell. There will need to be an injection of new blood and David more than fits the bill.

Playing with Gent starting in 2018, David has scored 30 goals in 60 games. This season alone he has 18 league goals while also netting 5 in the Europa League. Unfortunately Club Brugge appears to be running away with the league so they will be unable to raise silverware during this campaign.

Internationally David is yet another representation of the emerging Canadian player pool. At the top of that list is Bayern Munich wing back Alphonso Davies but David may quickly move up that list should he move to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
