New York Red Bulls II continued their strong performance in the USL eCup as they advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Greenville Triumph.

Each team in the tournament has represented a different FIFA 20 international team with NYRB II representing Chile while Greenville represents Poland. NYRB II currently is in first place in the overall standings with 1200 points after Mike LaBelle won four straight games including three that went to extra time to win the Division A title in week 2.

For this quarterfinal matchup RBNY midfielder Ben Mines filled in for LaBelle and he faced off against Greenville’s Jake Keegan.

It wouldn’t take long for Mines to find an opening goal as he scored 5 minutes into the game. Alexis Sanchez shot was parried right to Fabián Orellana and the forward scored.

Mines would continue to control the game early and had a shot cleared off the line and hit the post with Charles Aránguiz. The RBNY midfielder would finally double his advantage in the 25th minute when he fired home with Sanchez from close range.

Keegan would get one back minutes later after Arkadiusz Milik’s tame shot was deflected onto the post and Grzegorz Krychowiak was there to head home the rebound.

Mines had a great chance to double his advantage just before the break but he hit the post with Orellana after doing some great work with Sanchez.

The second half was more of the same with Mines controlling the match, Sanchez had a shot saved from close range in the 70th minute and failed to properly connect on a low cross minutes later.

Mines was finally able to seal the win in the 90th with a counter attack and scored with Jean Meneses for a 3-1 win to advance NYRB II to the semifinals.

NYRB II will face off against Rio Grande Valley FC in the semifinals on Thursday night at 8:30 PM.
