Report: Liverpool Eye Another Salzburg Youngster

Liverpool are not done raiding the Red Bull system according to Tuttosport in Italy as the team is eyeing 19-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian international has been with the team since 2017 but has finally become a fixture in the first team having already made 29 total appearances.

Jurgen Klopp’s seeming obsession with the Red Bull players dates back a few seasons when the German coach made the move for RB Leipzig dynamic midfielder Naby Keita. The move was just the beginning as Salzburg striker/winger Takumi Minamino joined the reigning Champions League winners in January. A move for Szoboszlai would seem to make sense given the playing style of Liverpool as well the players around him that may make the transition a bit easier.

Liverpool aren’t the only ones looking to nab the the young dynamo. Arsenal,Borussia Dortmund and even RB Leipzig have shown interest. In the past Salzburg has been a breeding ground for future Bundesliga talent in East Germany with Keita, Hannes Wolf, Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer having made the move from Austria. Currently it appears that a fee of about 31 million dollars will be what is necessary to make the move happen.

Such a move does continue to raise Red Bull’s stature in the world game. They have been producing stars that, in the past, would have come from places like Ajax, Lyon, Dortmund or other smaller clubs that pride themselves on developing players. A move for Szoboszlai, and potentially Timo Werner from Leipzig, could spell the beginning of a long relationship between Red Bull and the European powers.
