RB Leipzig hosted Bayer Leverkusen, in a Bundesliga heavy-weight match. Both teams are in desprate need for points as RB Leipzig are in second and only three points behind Bayern Munich, and Leverkusen are in 5th only two points from a Champions League spot.
The game was decided early with the goals being back to back in the first half. It was Leverkusen who struck first with a one touch finish by Leon Bailey in the 29th minute. the goal was scored from 12 yards out after a cutting-back pass from the touchline.
Leipzig would respond three minutes later with a header from Patrik Schick. The Assist goes to Christopher Nkunku (12th of the season), as he took an in-swinging left side free kick which Schick then buried in the bottom left.
“It was important that we equalised so quickly.” Schick said about his goal , “It was a really tactical game and Leverkusen were really strong, as we expected.”
The draw was the absolute minimum for Leipzig to keep any title hopes alive. Their next match is away at 7th place Vfl Wolfsburg.
Red Bull Salzburg
Slazburg lost 3-2 away at SCR Alta. It is not a good time for Slazburg to lose points as they are five points back in second place.
Monday’s game started by a first half goal by Alta’s Sydney Sam, who would score a second in the 52nd minute. Leipzig’s Hwang Hee-Chan also scored a brace as a half time substitute. He would half Alta’s lead in the 62nd minute. Hhee-Chan got his second in the 84th minute but Jan Zwischenbrugger had already made it three for Alta in the 80th minute.
Slazburg are now 6 points behind a very in-form LASK. the two teams match up Thursday for a Austrian Cup Semi-final showdown. Salzburg will want to win to ensure LASK can’t take two trophies this year.
