Initial Leagues Cup details announced for RBNY

The details for the New York Red Bulls participation in the 2020 Leagues Cup were announced today via press release.

The Red Bulls qualified for the tournament thanks to their 2019 finish in the MLS standings. The top four teams in each conference that did not qualify for the Concacaf Champions League are set to take part in the tournament, now in it’s second year. All MLS teams are set to host matches, including the Red Bulls, during the tournament.

The initial schedule release indicates that the first round will take place across July 21st and 22nd. Opponent and time of the matches is still listed as TBD as the remaining field of Liga MX teams is set. After all Liga MX teams officially qualify, teams will be seeded, and matchups will be drawn. The participants will be finalized following the conclusion of the Liga MX Clausura in May.

“We look forward to entering another continental competition and facing off against some of the best teams from Liga MX,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “We want to win every trophy we can, and this tournament gives us an opportunity to really test ourselves within Concacaf.”
