Speculation surrounds RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino.
Multiple sources state that Liverpool FC is slated to sign the 24-year-old, paying a reported 7.25 million Euros on his buyout clause. The signing, if confirmed would be an absolute steal for Liverpool. Since coming into Salzburg in 2014, Minamino has played 199 games, with 64 goals, and 44 assists. This year, he played 22 matches, scoring 9 goals and notching 11 assists.
While the stats Minamino produced are exceptional, it will not be a big blow to Salzburg. Jesse Marsch can rely upon Salzburg’s depth to find a suitable replacement.
That replacement could well be Masaya Okugawa, or Majeed Ashimeru; though Okugawa will be more favored as he is a more versatile player like Minamino.
Salzburg’s Sporting Director Christoph Freund added some truth to the rumor:
“I can confirm that there are currently discussions with Liverpool. It is an honor which clubs are interested in our players.”
While Freund confirms that there are talks on-going, he is not discussing any of the other finer details. Time will tell if the buyout clause will stand at €7.25m.
