Last month, the New York Red Bulls announced Sean McCafferty as the new Red Bull Academy director, ending a nearly year long job vacancy. The new boss did not wait long to begin filling out his staff. This morning, with the Fall academy season about to begin, the Red Bulls announced four new academy hires.
“We are very excited to make four excellent additions ahead of the start of the season,” said Sean McCafferty, Director of Red Bulls Academy. “A great staff is the foundation for success, and these new hires strengthen an already excellent coaching and support staff. We are pleased to welcome these new hires and are looking forward to welcoming our players back for the Fall season.”
Jonathan Rhodes – U-15 Coach
Rhodes joins the Red Bulls from the Penn Fusion Soccer Academy. Penn Fusion notably developed players currently playing in MLS and USL such as Keegan Rosenberry, Matt Freese, and Anthony Fontana. Rhodes oversaw 37 boys teams from the U-8 to U-19 levels focusing on player and coach development. Before Penn, Rhodes spent time at the Leeds United Academy, Gwynedd Mercy College, and as Academy Director with FC Delco.
Daniel Gutierrez – U-12 Coach
Gutierrez joins the Red Bulls after spending time as a U-15 coach at United Futbol Academy in Georgia. Gutierrez also worked as the Director of Youth Development and Director of Video Analysis at the academy. Before that, he spent time as Director of Youth Development at Boca United Football Club. He is also familiar with the Red Bulls academy, having worked with Red Bulls RDS in 2013-14. Along with holding a U.S. Soccer Federation A License, Gutierrez is fluent in English and Spanish.
McCafferty spent time with the Red Bulls Academy for the last four years. He worked as a youth development coach, pre-academy coach, and pre-academy regional coach. His main focus has been working closely with the RDS and Academy staff to create a strong link between training and player development with the pre-academy teams. Prior to that, McCafferty spent more than a decade with youth development in Scotland, most recently with the St. Mirren Elite Development Academy.
