Global Recap: Salzburg and Leipzig win big

FC Red Bull Salzburg

Salzburg continued their perfect run in the Austrian Bundesliga this week with a visit to St. Pölten. Salzburg put on a clinic, winning 6-0.

St. Polten went down a man in the 57′, but by then Salzburg had already scored five, including a brace by Erling Haland.

Hwang Hee-Chan, Takumi Minamino, Andreas Ulmer, and Sekou Koita all scored on the night.

After the match head coach Jesse Marsch said this to the press.

“It was a very mature performance! The final score doesn’t tell the entire story though. If St. Pölten had scored the first goal, it might have been a very different match. It was a good step and important one for the season ahead.”

RB Leipzig

Leipzig traveled to Berlin this Sunday to introduce Union Berlin to the Bundesliga and kick off their season. Leipzig left with all three points after a 4-0 win.

It did not take long for Leipzig to find the back of the net, in the 16′ Marcel Halstenberg scored the first goal of the season.

Marcel Sabitzer, Bayern Munich target, Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku each scored a goal as well.

After the match head coach Nagelsmann said this in his post-match press conference.

“My guys really moved up a gear compared to (our last) match and reacted to the opposition really well in certain situations. We wanted to vary our play both on and off the ball. We had a good mixture of possession and pressing.”
