The New York Red Bulls II will finish up their three game road trip when they take on Charleston Battery on Saturday.
The “baby bulls” had to wait a while to start their game against Nashville SC on Wednesday and were unable to finish it due to inclement weather.
They managed to take an early lead on Nashville when Mathias Jorgensen scored 6 minutes into the first half, but conceded two goals in the last 25 minutes in the first half.
The game was then called because of severe weather and will be rescheduled at a later date.
They will now travel to take on a Battery team that has struggled with only one win in their last 5 matches. It’s also Charleston’s only win in the last two months of USL Championship play, although they did win Open Cup games against Greenville and Nashville.
Former NYRBII player Zeiko Lewis has been Charleston’s biggest standout this year. The midfielder has 5 goals and 2 assists on the year and just returned to the team after an impressive showing with Bermuda in the Gold Cup. Ian Svantesson is the other dangerous threat as the forward has 4 goals on the year.
For NYRBII they lead the Eastern Conference in goals scored and will look to bounce back after being shutout by Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Jared Stroud has been a key piece in their attack, and Jorgensen has started to find his footing in USL after a slow start.
Last year these two teams met twice in Charleston with a compelling 4-4 draw during the regular season and NYRB II winning the playoff matchup 1-0.
