The need for a combined camp is interesting due to the timing of the Gold Cup and ramping up for Olympic qualifying. One can argue that each are equally important to the federation. They will need to defend their Gold Cup title. Also, they will need to push hard to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after missing out on London 2012 and Brazil 2016. Players like Omar Gonzalez and Tim Ream will look to pass the torch to new leaders who will come through the US system over the next decade.
The 21-year old Duncan has only represented the US twice. They were for the U-18 team and both matches came in a three-day span against Germany in December 2014. Duncan has racked up almost 1,000 minutes with RBNY and RBNY II since joining the club in 2018. His lone goal came against Minnesota during his third appearance.
Duncan is eligible for the Olympic squad who begin qualification in October. CONCACAF qualifying will be held in Costa Rica this year. Only the top two from the field of eight will make it to Tokyo in July of next year.
