Red Bulls U-23 Roster Announced for U.S. Open Cup Match vs. F.C. Motown

New York Red Bulls U-23’s announced their 2019 U.S. Open Cup squad taking on F.C. Motown.

Goalkeepers (2): Marcelin Gihier, Francesco Montali

Defenders (6): Jared Juleau, Chris Tiao, Joergen Oland, C.C. Oche, Ryan Schultz, Zack Brown

Midfielders (6): Barry Sharifi, JP Marin, Vince Borden, Nick Schimbeno, John Murphy, Salvatore Esposito

Forwards (5): Allen Gavilanes, Skylar Conway, Brian Saramago, Omar Sowe, Jeciel Cedeno

The two sides square off for a second consecutive year in the First Round of the tournament at MSU Soccer Park on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 pm ET.

If the Red Bulls U-23 are able to avenge their loss from last year, they will face Memphis 901 FC, at AutoZone Park in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 15 at 7 pm ET. This would make for another interesting match-up as there are currently five individuals within the Memphis franchise that have ties to the New York organization.

Starting from the top, former Metrostars goalkeeper, Tim Howard, is currently part-owner of the Football Club. Heach coach Tim Mulqueen is a former Goalkeeper Coach for the Metrostars – who is credited by Howard for helping him become the goalkeeper he is today. Dan Metzger, who made his way up from the academy, to RBII, to the first team, currently plays for Memphis. Adam Najem is a familiar face to the NYRB U-23, as he played for them back in 2015. Lastly, Scott Levene made four appearance for RBII last season in goal.

About Wilson Quiceno

Born & raised in New Jersey to a Colombian, fútbol-loving family, soccer was in my blood. I grew up going to some Metrostars games at the old Giants Stadium and was simply a fan. However, it all changed for me in 2006: the Metrostars became the New York Red Bulls, I went from fan to die-hard supporter, and they linked their name on to my heart ever since. I am excited to join the RBNN team as we cover anything and everything Red Bull!
