After finishing their homestand with a resounding win, New York Red Bulls II will travel to face Ottawa Fury FC on Wednesday.
It will be the first of a short two game road trip for the baby bulls as they look to continue their strong play to start the season. After their win last week NYRB II moved to the top of the Eastern Conference ,taking 19 out of a possible 24 points from their first 8 games.
NYRB II’s offense has been on a tear to start the season and they have scored 21 goals which is the best in the Eastern Conference and tied for the 2nd most in all of USL Championship. The team has scored 3 or more goals in half of their games this season so far. Tom Barlow leads the league in goals scored with 8 and has scored a goal in 6 out of the 8 games NYRB II has played.
While their offense might be on a tear what’s being overlooked is how quickly the defense has come together. Jordan Scarlett and Sean Nealis have formed a good partnership in the central defense which has been a problem for the team in years past. On the outside it’s been a rotation between Janes Loebe, Edgardo Rito, Rece Buckmaster, and Allen Yanes who have done a nice job as well.
NYRB II have not won in any of their 3 trips to Ottawa since the Fury joined the USL back in 2017. They have drawn all three times they have played there and only have one win against Ottawa in the 6 games the two teams have played against each other.
While getting their first road win was important, NYRB II will want to continue their impressive start and getting three points against Ottawa on Wednesday could help dispel the road woes this team has had over the past few seasons.
