Eduardo Berizzo summoned New York Red Bulls midfielder Kaku to represent Paraguay in its upcoming Friendlies against Peru and Mexico. Of the 23 players called, two other players hail from MLS teams: Cristhian Paredes (Portland Timbers) and Héctor Villalba (Atlanta United). Former Atlanta stalwart Miguel Almiron has made the squad as well.
Kaku made his one-time FIFA switch from Argentina to Paraguay last May and has featured in two matches for La Albirroja: Friendlies against Japan in June and South Africa in November, totaling 76 minutes.
Paraguay will play matches against Peru at Red Bull Arena on March 22nd before the team heads across country to Santa Clara, CA to take on Mexico March 26. These are the last matches that Paraguay scheduled before Copa America starts in June. Expect Paraguay to announce warm-up matches in the upcoming months before group stage matches against Qatar, Argentina and Colombia take place.
Kaku, along with Aaron Long and Michael Murrillo, will miss the RBNY match with Orlando City SC on March 23rd while on duty. They should be available for the trip to Chicago on March 30th, but it will be up to Chris Armas to determine who needs additional rest as the MLS season kicks into gear.
