New York Red Bulls II players Marcus Epps and Tom Barlow made the USL Championship’s Team of the Week for week one. The two combined for all of the scoring for New York in the team’s 3-1 win over Swope Park Rangers.
Barlow scored two goals on six shots but it could have been more given the opportunities created by the team. One of his goals came when Epps found Barlow as he split the defense and ended up with a shot on an empty net. The 23-year-old scored again in the second half to put the game out of reach and solidify himself early on as a player to watch for New York.
Epps acquitted himself well in his first USL appearance with the aforementioned assist and a spectacular shot from the top of the box that put New York ahead for good. His goal was nominated for goal of the week but was not selected. Epps is expected to split his minutes this season with the MLS and USL team but it is unknown how the majority of those minutes will be divided.
New York will have week two off and resume play on March 24th at MSU Soccer Park against Nashville SC.
