The New York Red Bulls announced today that Cameroonian striker Anatole Abang has left the club for Nanton Zhiyn of the Chinese second division.
Abang made 25 appearances for the Red Bulls and scored four goals since joining the team in 2015, with a majority of his time at the club spent on loan.
Red Bulls Sporting Direct Denis Hamlett said, “We wish Anatole all the best in this next step. We are pleased to have found a transfer that is beneficial for both the player and the club.”
Abang returned to the team in 2018, but failed to reach the heights of the early part of his tenure with the club. He spent the remainder of 2018 on loan to the New York Red Bulls II, scoring three goals over nine appearances.
The recent signing of Mathias Jorgensen and Brian White’s continued rise all but assured Abang was surplus to requirements with the club. Thus ends Abang’s long strange tenure with the club.
