Two weeks away from the start of the 2019 USL Championship season and teams are solidifying their line-ups. In particular, the newly minted Loudoun United FC have added their first players, giving a glimpse of what to expect. Phoenix Rising also added another forward to make them even more dangerous in front of goal.
Shinya Kadono Gives Clarity on Loudoun Attack
Loudoun United have their striker in DC United SuperDraft pick Shinya Kadono. The University of California player scored 20 goals in 66 appearances with 12 of them coming during the 2018 campaign.
“Shinya had a great collegiate career and has looked promising in preseason,” said Loudoun head coach Richie Williams. “We are thrilled to add him to our growing roster and we’re hoping he can make a real impact on our attacking unit this season.”
Loudoun is the USL affiliate team of DC United, and will begin play in 2019. Expectations are that many of the younger players with something to prove will end up on the club similar to what has been seen in teams like New York Red Bulls II.
Ben Spencer Joins Phoenix Attack
Former Toronto FC forward Ben Spencer joins Phoenix Rising FC after trialing with the team for the past several weeks. The 23-year old impressed the Championship team, even scoring a goal against the New York Red Bulls on February 10th.
“I saw what the club was able to accomplish last season and I am hoping to achieve that and more,” said Spencer. “The fanbase is incredible and I can’t wait to play in front of them. This is a club with big ambitions and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
Last season Phoenix went to the USL Championship game but fell to Louisville City. The team with MLS aspirations is hoping to break through and win the title in 2019 and have built and effective offensive team to achieve that goal.
