The Red Bulls released a statement Wednesday that New York Red Bulls goalkeeper, Ryan Meara, suffered a torn medial meniscus in his knee. He underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and the procedure was a success.
The release from the official club website says Meara is expected to return in 4 weeks time. Meara should be back in time for the Red Bulls’ MLS season opener.
The 28 year-old is entering his 8th season with the club after being drafted in the MLS SuperDraft in 2012. This is Meara’s first injury requiring surgery since a hip injury which kept him out of much of the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The Yonkers, NY native has logged 71 games with both New York Red Bulls and New York Red Bulls II. Meara made 3 MLS appearances last season and 1 US Open Cup start.
