Marc Rzatkowski returns to Red Bulls on a free transfer

Three days after announcing Marc Rzatkowski joined the New York Red Bulls for preseason, the team announced that he had signed a TAM contract for for the 2019 MLS Season.

“We are pleased to complete this signing and bring Marc back to New York,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “Marc played an important role for us last year and we expect those contributions to continue in 2019.”

Rzatkoswki spent time across various midfield positions in 2018, filling in as needed. That versatility likely aided the 28-year-old midfielder’s return to the club. Despite missing time last season due to injury, ‘RZA’ served an important role for the team.

Rzatkowski’s best moment in 2018 came during a substitute appearance against Sporting Kansas City. Rzatkowski scored a brace including the game winning goal. In all, he played 1,497 minutes in 2018, scoring two goals and adding seven assists in MLS Play.

“Marc showed his value and quality throughout last year, and we’re happy to have him back on a permanent basis,” said Red Bulls Head Coach Chris Armas. “Marc adds experience, intelligence, and a competitive edge that is needed in our squad. He also has integrated so well with everyone and fits in perfectly with our culture and the way we work.”

Rzatkowski previously spent time at Red Bull Salzburg before being loaned to RBNY in 2018.
