The New York Red Bulls have announced the signing of MLS Waiver Draft pick Marcus Epps. The Red Bulls signed Epps to a MLS contract the Philadelphia Union declined his option following the 2018 season.
“Marcus has a lot of qualities that we like,” said head coach Chris Armas. “His ability and willingness to take players on and run behind as well as his attitude make him an exciting addition. We’re glad to have him as part of our group.”
The Red Bulls traded up in the Waiver Draft to acquire Epps who they see as a possible depth player in the coming year. The team will be playing in three competitions including MLS, US Open Cup and Concacaf Champions League.
There is a possibility the Red Bulls loan to NRYBII for experience as well.
“We moved up to select Marcus in the waiver draft because we believe he is a talented player who fits our philosophy. We are glad to get this deal done at the start of the preseason and look forward to getting him integrated into our squad.”
Red Bulls begin play in the Champions League in less than a month and the team has already traveled for preseason preparations.
