It was a busy week for current and former New York Red Bulls players with the preseason training camp opening. Former defender Aurelien Collin has found a new home while Matt Miazga’s stay in France seems to be coming to an end.
There were also transfer rumors going in and out of Harrison connected to familiar and not-so-familiar names.
Collin moves to Join Philly
Former New York Red Bulls defender Aurelien Collin has found a new home with the Philadelphia Union. The news comes from SB Nation’s Brotherly Game who first reported it on Monday. The Union confirmed the transfer Tuesday morning.
Collin is an MLS veteran having played for Sporting KC, Orlando City and the New York Red Bulls. In 2013 he was named the MLS Cup MVP and lifted the trophy after a penalty kick win over Real Salt Lake. He joined New York in 2016, helping to solidify a wavering backline. Over that time he made 39 regular season appearances for the club, finishing in first place in the Eastern Conference in 2016.
Honeymoon is Over in Nantes for Miazga
Former Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga is rumored to be returning to Chelsea after his loan spell is cancelled. The highly touted defender made the move to Europe following the 2015 season and has made little impact since leaving. Originally signed to Chelsea, Miazga has made only two appearances for the London club but 55 for Vitesse in the Dutch League and five for Nantes in France’s Ligue 1.
The story gets more intriguing after the Nantes manager, Vahid Halilhodzic, claimed that the player was faking an injury to avoid playing for the club.
“I do not know what is happening behind my back,” said Halilhodzic to the media. “Some even blackmail… There are many things that are wrong and I am sad.”
Halilhodzic detailed his blackmail claims further the following day: “The blackmail I was talking about yesterday was about Matt Miazga. He assured me that he had a sore back. After exams, however, there was no problem… He just wanted to leave the club.”
Halilhodzic also indicated that Miazga has returned to London as is back with Chelsea. The official word on the loan cancellation has not happened just yet.
Kaku Transfer Saga?
The rumor of Club America’s interest in Alejandro ‘Kaku’ Romero Gamarra’s transfer made the rounds with ESPN Deportes and writer Eric Gomez. reporting that the the Mexican giant made an offer that was rejected by the Red Bulls. They also claimed that the team countered with an ask between 10 to 12 million dollars to make the deal happen.
For Gamarra’s part, he has been open to the idea of moving to Mexico should the deal take place. He is also focused on the Red Bulls’ season should he stay.
