Rumor: Anatole Abang on the move to Chicago UPDATED

Anatole Abang

The New York Red Bulls made a deal with the Chicago Fire for the 32nd pick in the MLS SuperDraft. The trade involved the rights to a player to be named later. It looks like that player might be Anatole Abang.

This afternoon during the draft, Abang updated his Instagram profile photo from the Red Bulls training top to a SJK Seinäjoki jersey. Abang spent two months at SJK on loan in 2017. The innocuous change raises eyebrows.

That player to be named later was not identified at the SuperDraft as the player had yet to be notified.

Abang spent four years with the Red Bulls, mostly on loan. His return to the team last summer shocked many, but he failed to make his mark in a limited role with the New York Red Bulls II in USL. The Red Bulls sought to offload Abang since 2016, and it appears they may have finally cleared the striker from their books.

The Red Bulls selected defender Rece Buckmaster with the pick from the Fire.

RBNN was able to reach Abang for comment and he denied the report. This rumor is dead.
