According to reports from Fox Sports Brazil, Brazilian side Santos FC is interested in former Red Bulls CB Fidel Escobar. The 23 year-old’s loan option was declined by the New York Red Bulls at the end of the 2018 MLS season.
Reports say, Santos FC are keen on bringing in Escobar but it is up to Head Coach Jorge Sampaoli whether he wants to complete the move. Sampaoli was just recently hired after a disastrous stint with the Argentine national team at the World Cup.
It would be a fantastic opportunity for the center-back who spent much of last year on the bench and playing in USL. Fidel Escobar appeared in 6 matches in 2018, starting in just 4 for the Red Bulls first team.
The acquisition of Tim Parker and the breakout year of Aaron Long kept Escobar on the bench for the duration of the season. Though, Fidel Escobar had the opportunity to go to the World Cup in the summer. Escobar started in all three group games for Panama.
Reports claim a deal could be made final shortly after Monday when Escobar’s loan officially expires and the transfer window opens. Escobar’s transfer fee will go to Panamanian side, Sporting San Miguelito.
