According to Mariano Trujillo of Fox Deportes, Aaron Long is a heavily sought after asset this January transfer window.
The reigning MLS Defender of the Year is reportedly gaining plenty of interest and it’s really no surprise. 2018 was a breakout year for the 26 year-old. Long earned an MLS All-Star and USMNT nod while leading MLS’ best defensive team to a Supporters’ Shield trophy.
After two outstanding years in a row, Long has seemingly earned a significant pay increase. In 2018, Long earned just $73,125 in total compensation which was by far the best bargain in the league at any position.
If reports are true, the Red Bulls will surely need to renegotiate Long’s contract if they hope to bring him back. Only making matters more nuanced is the recent contract extension of Tim Parker.
The Red Bulls resigned Parker to a new contract after his contract ended at the end of 2018. According to prosoccerusa.com, Parker will earn an annual salary around “$700,000 in the first year and up to around $800,000 at the end”.
If Long left this January, he would join Tyler Adams as the second Red Bull to move overseas this offseason.
