FC Salzburg (Red Bull Salzburg?) continue their dominance in the Europa League with a 3-0 win over Rosenborg and lay claim to being an undeniable favorite after just three games in the group. Munas Dabbur continued scoring with two more goals, now five in the competition, burying the Norwegian champs and all but putting qualification for the knockout stage on cruise-control.
Salzburg Lay Claim to Being Europa Favs with Win – EUROPA RECAP
“We are delighted about the good attendance, the three points and the three goals,” said manager Marco Rose. “I think we didn’t play so well in the first half and didn’t do so well off the ball. We nonetheless deservedly went in front. In the second half the boys picked it up another gear and played a really sensational half of football.”
Stefan Lainer was providing the firepower for Salzburg, whipping crosses into the box and taking on defenders early in the game. His cross in the 34th minute connected with Dabbur for the game’s opening goal, signifying just how the night’s events would proceed. Rosenborg offered little in response, sitting back and absorbing the pressure put forth by the Austrian powerhouse.
Hannes Wolf doubled the lead in the 53rd minute after recovering a bad pass from Dabbur. He broke the defense and clinically placed the ball past the Rosenborg keeper. Six minutes later Dabbur finished the game’s scoring by converting a penalty from the spot.
Salzburg are perfect in Europe thus far with three wins in the group stage against Rosenborg, Celtic and Leipzig. With nine points, it will be very difficult to not see them advancing to the knockout stage where the competition takes a crazy turn with the inclusion of Champions League dropoffs.
