Only days after clinching their spot in the upcoming 2018 USL Cup Playoffs, the New York Red Bulls II announced that Jaime Ponce will take over as the club’s General Manager. Ponce received a promotion from his previous position as Director of Business Operations. Shaun Oliver, Vice President for both the Red Bulls and Red Bull Arena, had been in the GM role prior to this change.
New York Red Bulls II announce Jamie Ponce as new General Manager
With an abundance of tasks on his plate, there was likely a need for the franchise to have Oliver concentrate on one area of operations at a time. Oliver will remain a New York Red Bulls II Board of Governors representative, and spoke of the change through a press release from the club on Thursday.
“I’m proud of what we have built so far with New York Red Bulls II. With a strong foundation in place on both the sporting and business sides, the time is right to pass the torch to someone as capable and passionate as Jamie. We are proud to make this announcement and know that Jamie will continue to build NYRB II and foster a strong relationship between the club and the community.”
Ponce’s previous director role with NYRBII sets him up well for success, already having a keen knowledge of the team and their players. He was an important part of the move to Montclair State University last year, and his objectives will continue to evolve now as the club’s General Manager.
New York Red Bulls II will play their final regular season match of 2018 this coming Sunday against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
