New York Red Bulls Cautionary Against Woeful San Jose Earthquakes
Red Bulls are approaching this game with caution. A change in the Managerial position has led the Earthquakes to some surprises along the way. Atlanta United needed to claw its way back from a 3-1 deficit. They surprised US Open Cup Winners Houston Dynamo in the first half by gaining a 2-0 lead. However despite all of that, the Earthquakes still lost those games.
Red Bulls are not about to let the results of last weeks win over Atlanta United get into their heads. “We’re going to take one game at a time and try to make progress each time, and maybe now more than ever.” Said Coach Chris Armas “Take some of this momentum from this previous game and throw everything we can at San Jose. We feel like we have a lot to lose and a lot to gain, so we’re gonna go there and look to give everything once again.”
The players also are wary about an Earthquakes team with nothing to lose. “Actually, I think that they’re a better team now. Even though they’re out of the playoffs it seems like they’re playing a little more free and they’ve actually had some strong performances despite the results.” Sean Davis commented “I think that it’s a tricky game for us for sure and we have to be up from it from the first minute, or else it could turn into a really, really challenging game. But we know that they’re actually a strong team now, so we need to be ready for that.”
The Earthquakes can play spoiler for the Red Bulls chances at the Supporters shield with interim head coach Steve Ralston. Previous head coach Mikael Stahre made several odd choices in line-ups and formations, however Ralston has chosen a steady 4-1-4-1. The line up has made an odd impact results score wise, but has still lost since he has taken over.
Line Up Prediction
Players To Watch
Alex Muyl has had two very good games in a row. If he can prove that he insistence and creativity on the ball that netted him 2 assists over 2 games. Muyl may surprise everyone at the wing Position.
Chris Wondolowski may only have 9 goals to his name this season. That doesn’t change that he is one of three active all time leading scorers for MLS. Despite not having a stellar season, Wondolowski is someone the back line can not afford to allow him do as he wants.
