(INDIANAPOLIS) Indy Eleven outran, outplayed and out-hustled the New York Red Bulls II midfield and backline right from kickoff to a 3-0 win at Lucas Oil Stadium.
NYRBII outraced by Indy Eleven, 3-0
With the win, Indy Eleven moved into the top four in the Eastern Conference.
The hosts scored all three goals in the first half extending their undefeated streak to nine games and ended their three-game home stand on a high note.
Indy forward Eugene Starikov rotated in and out of the starting lineup this season, but he made the most of his latest chance. His two-goal night helped the hosts put an early hold on the contest. The goals were Starikov’s first since Indy’s visit to the Tampa Bay Rowdies on July 21. The second goal, a superlative first-time strike, broke a good spell of NYRBII pressure that preceded it.
NYRBII endured a frustrating night in front of goal. The visitors outshot Indy Eleven 25-10, but fail to find the net. It is their first time being shutout since June 24 as they remained winless on the road this season.
NYRBII was regularly just a fraction off with their finishing. A chance for Ethan Kutler in the first half flashed just wide of the target. Brian White pinged one off the crossbar after beating Indy goalkeeper Owain Fôn Williams.
With its precarious position in the playoff race, NYRBII will have to shake this result off quickly and figure out how it’s going to get the road points it needs over the next month.
