New York Red Bulls II vs North Carolina FC Preview
NYRB II dropped three spots in the Eastern Conference and currently sit in 8th place after their week off. Despite their loss to Louisville City FC in their last game, NYRB II still have the second best home record in the Eastern Conference. They have also scored the most goals at home (41) by a large margin and are the only team that has scored over 50 goals. The defense will look to redeem themselves after conceding 6 goals to Louisville City which brought NYRB II’s total up to 42 conceded goals on the year. A big key in this match up is NYRB II will have leading scorer Amando Moreno back after he missed the past few weeks due to injury.
North Carolina FC come into this game having won 3 out of their last 5 matches and currently sit in 10th place just 5 points off a playoff spot. Two of those wins have come against quality opponents in the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Pittsburgh Riverhounds who are in second place. They have a record of 3-5-3 on the road this year with 13 goals scored and 15 conceded. However, they have struggled against teams on the road in the top half of the standings this year with a record of 0-4-2.
Players to Watch:
The man pulling the strings for the dangerous NYRB II attack this season, Tinari finds himself second in all of USL with 74 chances created. Tinari has even shown his ability to score goals with 7 on the year currently and two in his last two games.
The one thing that makes Tinari standout other than his ability to set up his teammates is his work rate. When the midfielder isn’t on the ball he always keeps the opposition under pressure with his pressing and counter pressing. When Tinari, Chris Lema, and Cristian Casseres start games together they usually dominate the midfield play.
The striker on loan from C.D. Guadalajara has been North Carolina FC’s biggest threat this season. He currently has 12 goals on the year which is tied for 5th in all of USL which include 3 in his last 5 games. Rios has showed he is an expert finisher inside the area and midfielder Kyle Bekker has shown he can pick out teammates (10 assists), NYRB II will have to maintain their defensive focus in this game.
