Red Bull Salzburg remain dominant in Europe with a 2-0 win over Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday. Goals from Patson Daka and Munas Dabbur were all the reigning champions needed as they dispatched the opposition with little resistance.
GAME RECAP – Salzburg Tops Austria Wien 2-0
“We played very well today in a lot of the phases of the match,” said manager Marco Rose. “The performance of my boys therefore really impressed me. Ahead of the match we spoke about a few things that didn’t please me so much on Wednesday. We took these on board and reacted perfectly today.
Salzburg flew out of the gate, whipping crosses into the box and generally controlling the tempo of the game. No clear chances emerged with passes just out of reach but the home side didn’t stutter in their continued attempts at grabbing the game. The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Daka broke free of his defender and received a pass from Dabbur. Daka calmly chipped the Austria goalkeeper for the opening goal.
Salzburg continued to press the game in the second half and earned their second goal in the 77th minute. Zlatko Junuzovic at the top of the penalty area found Dabbur with a pass and the rest was history. The Israeli striker netted his fourth goal of the season and sixth in all competitions. The lead held as Salzburg remain undefeated at home for 30 consecutive games in the league dating back two seasons.
Next up is a return leg in the Champions League qualification with Shkendija. The team currently has a 3-0 aggregate lead and should be able to hold off the Macedonian league champions to secure a place in the Playoff round.
