The last time New York Red Bulls fans saw Anatole Abang in a Red Bulls uniform was in 2016 when the striker scored twice in 8 appearances. Since then, the Red Bulls loaned out Abang on three occasions seeing him play in Denmark, Finland, and most recently Romania. Playing in Romania’s top flight for Astra Giurgiu, Abang appeared in 29 matches netting 5 goals and chipping in 2 assists.

Now on the eve of the secondary transfer window closing, Abang posted two instagram stories hinting at his return. Now 22 years-old with experience overseas, Abang enters a team much different than the Red Bulls in 2016. Although his role isn’t clear as of now, Abang will likely serve as a bench option for Chris Armas. Abang joins two attackers added in recent weeks to the the squad, Andreas Ivan and Brian White. More will be known about Abang’s status in the team following training tomorrow.
