On Monday, Atlanta United and All-Star Game Head Coach, Tata Martino, announced Tyler Adams will replace one of two ASG selectees. Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and NYCFC forward David Villa will both miss the exhibition game against Juventus this Wednesday. Tata Martino also selected Minnesota United forward Darwin Quintero as a replacement.
Tyler Adams Selected to MLS All Star Game vs Juventus
Tyler Adams will join Red Bulls teammates Aaron Long, Michael Amir Murillo and Bradley Wright-Phillips in Atlanta as he makes his first ASG appearance. 2018 has been a massive year for the homegrown talent, Adams has become a staple in the Red Bulls starting lineup. Adams started 16 out of 17 MLS fixtures, providing 4 assists along the way.
For the second year in a row, Adams was selected to the 2017 MLS Homegrown team as they tied Chivas’ U-20’s, 2-2. Tyler Adams becomes just the second player in MLS history to make the leap from MLS Homegrown team to MLS All-Star team in a one year span.
At only 19, an ASG appearance will provide great experience for Adams to play against one of Europe’s biggest clubs. The ASG is just another opportunity for Adams to showcase himself this year, along with his four USMNT caps and the Red Bulls’ CONCACAF Champions League run. While the ASG could add minutes on Adams’ legs before the LAFC match this Sunday, the selection is a testament to his hard work and talent.
The MLS All-Stars square off against Juventus on August 1st at 7:30 pm available on ESPN, UniMas, TSN and TVA Sports.
