Red Bull Salzburg started their Austrian Cup campaign with a dominant performance over ASKO Oedt winning 6-0. Two goals from Reinhold Yabo and Xaver Schlager gave the team more than what they needed to handle the fourth division side.
Salzburg Pounds Oedt in Austrian Cup Opener
“On the whole it was a solid and good performance in a competitive match today,” said manager Marco Rose after the game. “It is not always easy in the cup, as it is vital to get the first goal, which we managed today. In the second half we played the game out really well with a lot of things we want to see in our play.”
The scoring started in the 10th minute when a long ball fell to the feet of Schlager who put it over the opposition’s keeper. Just before the half the lead was doubled when Yabo made a run between the defense and tight-roped a shot past the keeper. Things only got worse for Oedt in the second half as Yabo, Schlager, Prevljak and Dabour added goals, making the game a romp.
“Our aims for today were very clear,” said Yabo. “We wanted to make the next round without making the match more dramatic than it needed to be. The first match is always so important, and we wanted to do well, which we managed.”
Next up for Salzburg is the start of the Austrian Bundesliga against LASK. A Champions League qualifier against the winner of KF Shkendija or FC Sheriff Tiraspol awaits midweek as well.
