An early morning start, and a European opponent did not phase the young Red Bulls as they defeated Arsenal F.C. 2-0 in their first official group match of the ICC Futures competition.
Much like the first team, the U-14’s came out pressing early and often, looking to hit fast on the counter attack. It paid off in the 24th minute when Serge Ngoma (2005) put the Red Bulls ahead.

The second half was an even more dominant performance from the U-14’s. They put the game to rest in the 44th minute when Brandon Newman (2004) scored a nice goal from the top of the box to put the U-14’s up 2-0.

With the win, the U-14’s are now in first place in their 3 team group. A game against the Illinois all-stars Wednesday at 8:30am decides who advances. All games are streamed on Facebook and the ICC website.
A clean sheet usually means the defense and goalie were strong defensively, but what caught my eye was how calm the center backs were on the ball. This team had no fear playing out of the back or passing back to the goalkeeper. It is a great thing to see at such a young age because its harder to learn those things as you get older and the game speeds up.
